New Boston-area special school ready for autumn term

Building work on the new special school has been completed, meaning it can start welcoming its first students from September.

The new school has space for 140 pupils, and is located next to St Nicholas Primary School on Kitwood Road. The John Fielding School (part of C.I.T Academies) will relocate to the new facility, which will be named Boston Endeavour Academy.

Willmott Dixon commences on £7.2m Spalding SEND school extension

The extension and refurbishment project will enable the school to offer improved specialist facilities to 127 pupils, aged between four and 19 years old.

This will help the school transition from an 11-19 age ambulant school to an all-through, all-needs facility. This project is the fourth scheme being delivered by Willmott Dixon within the region, which combined will deliver 500 additional SEND school places.

Building on the school’s existing setup, Willmott Dixon will deliver a new site layout to cater for all needs and all through, including nine new classrooms, in addition to a new social recreation space, life skills room, increased WC provision of suitable need, meeting space and ancillary staff facilities. The project will also incorporate carefully considered design elements including minor refurbishment of the existing school building to provide a new plant room and adjacent staff spaces.

Lincoln special needs school major expansion approved

Plans for a major special educational needs expansion for Lincoln St Christopher’s School have been approved.

Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning and Regulation Committee gave the go-ahead to the authority’s proposals to build a dedicated new 130-place primary school on the site of the former Usher Junior School which was demolished in 2012.

Lincoln St Christophers’ original building will also be extensively redeveloped and remodelled to provide specialist secondary age education. For more details click the link

A new school building will rise from the ashes of an old one as part of a major special education needs expansion for Lincoln St Christopher’s School.

Lincolnshire County Council has applied to its planning department to build a dedicated new 130-place primary school on the site of the former Priory Witham Academy Junior School, which was demolished in 2012.

Spalding Special Schools

Plans sumitted to expand Spalding's The Priory School which could be merging with The Garth

Plans have been lodged to expand a special school - which could also be amalgamating with another.

Lincolnshire County Council is looking to merge Spalding’s The Priory School with nearby The Garth School, according to new planning documents.

Louth special needs school refurb begins

Work has begun on site for the project at a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities school in Louth, including the extension and refurbishment of the existing facility.

The project at St Bernard’s School on Wood Lane in Louth will see the creation of a new teaching block. This will allow the school to offer ‘all through, all needs’ facilities to local students.
The new teaching block will provide additional classrooms with increased PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities) support to expand the school’s offering. This includes a dedicated therapy area, main hall with combined dining and PE space, art space, new life skills and recreations spaces, staff areas and office space.
Works will also include the creation of a dedicated hygiene suite, kitchen, dining space, laundry area and meeting room. There will also be renovated medical professional areas, increased office and break out spaces, a new library and additional car parking.

Local contractor Willmott Dixon, a privately-owned contracting and interior fit-out group, has started work on the project which is being delivered through SCAPE. SCAPE is one of the UK’s leading public sector procurement authorities.

It is the third SEND school project Willmott Dixon has done for Lincolnshire County Council as part of their £86 million SEND school programme currently being rolled out across the county.

More work progressing on Lincolnshire Schools

The work will take place at Eresby School in Spilsby and Willoughby School in Bourne, and will be constructed through the Scape Major Works Framework as a key element of the region’s £86 million special education school investment, which aims to improve SEND support for local children and young people by reducing travel time, enhancing provisions and increasing school places.

£86m investment in schools

One of the county council's top priorities is ensuring all local children get a great start in life, and a good education is vital to that. That's why the authority is investing £86m in improving and expanding 13 special school sites across Lincolnshire over the next 3-4 years, with additional places being made available in a gradual and measured way.
These improvements will mean more pupils with SEND can attend a local school rather than having to travel large distances for their education, which will be of great benefit to both the children and their families.
Around 9-12 months before any additional become places available at a school, SEND caseworkers and headteachers will work together to identify potential pupils. SEND caseworkers will then make contact with those families to discuss how to access a place at the school.
If you are the parent of a child who is not attending their nearest special school and you would like to be considered for your local school, please contact your SEND caseworker to make your wishes known. Transfers will also be considered as part of the annual review process.
