A multi-million pound project is creating new and improved facilities for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)

One of the council’s top priorities is ensuring all local children get a great start in life, and a good education is vital to that.

That’s why the authority is investing over £50m in improving and expanding 13 special school sites across Lincolnshire over the next five years. See link for more details.Link Icon

Expansion planned for Eresby Special School

A new block with additional facilities will be built for the Spilsby-based Eresby Special School, along with extensive remodelling of the existing buildings.

Under the proposals, the school's capacity will increase by an additional 20 places. The new block will include five classrooms, a hall, ICT and science spaces, as well as small group rooms, hygiene facilities and staff and meeting spaces.

Meanwhile, the existing school will be remodelled to provide a design/technology and art room, a physiotherapy space, a visiting professional/therapy space, a parents' room, a hygiene suite, a disabled WC and staff/administration spaces.

Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive member for children's services, said: "We want all local children to get a great start in life, and a good education is key to that.

"That's why we are investing £50m in improving and expanding special schools across the county over the next few years.

"This will be the third project to begin construction, following Boston Endeavour Academy and The Willoughby Academy in Bourne.

"These improvements will ensure all children in the local area are able to receive high quality education as near their family and local community as possible."

The project is expected to cost just over £6.5m. It is hoped that construction will begin in early 2021 and be completed in early 2022.

The new school will have space for 140 pupils, and will be located next to St Nicholas Primary School, on Kitwood Road, Skirbeck.
The John Fielding School will relocate to the new facility, which will be named Boston Endeavour Academy.
Cllr Mrs Patricia Bradwell OBE, executive councillor for children's services, said: "This is a very exciting moment as the county council starts to deliver the special school building project across the county.
"There is no better place to start the project than here in Boston, investing £13.2m on the new school building, with an expected opening date of autumn 2021.
"The new school will ensure all children in the local area are able to receive high quality education as near their family and local community as possible."
The new school site will include 16 classrooms, specialist teaching spaces for science, technology, ICT and art, and a hall.
It will also benefit from a hydrotherapy pool, sensory and soft play rooms and dedicated therapy spaces. Outside, there will be hard and soft-surfaced play areas, as well as a sensory garden and wildlife areas.Photo Inserted
Richard Gammon, Headteacher of the John Fielding School, said: “We are all absolutely delighted and excited to be moving to these new state of the art premises. We are looking forward to the additional specialist facilities and larger classrooms, and being able to provide more desperately needed places for the people of Boston and surrounding area.”

Paralympian star opens new primary block at Ambergate Sports College

The remodelling of the school is the final phase of improvements to Ambergate Sports College which has delivered new classrooms and improved facilities to help provide a better learning experience for almost 150 pupils that are currently on roll. This is the first scheme completed within Lincolnshire County Council’s £50m special schools project, which will see improvements at 13 school sites delivered over a five year period.
