I recently went to visit a person in Lincoln prison I took the kids to visit, with all their additional needs I was obviously stressed and worried about it. I called the family support office and the staff have been absolutely amazing they went above and beyond for me and the children, I explained about their additional needs and disabilities and my own.

I asked about reasonable adjustments to meet needs and put things in place to help it be a good positive experience for the children. One of the girls met me when I got there she took me to a side room so I could discuss everything with her privately she came and spoke to the prison officers they let us go through by ourselves so not overcrowded they talked the kids through what happens made the kids feel really comfortable had them laughing.

Explained each step beforehand. They spoke about potential noise and alarm’s might go off gave them colouring book about visiting dad in prison it had words about how I’m feeling my daughter circled happy excited and nervous. So it was good feedback that she was doing ok. They had a playmat with projector they loved that they answered all questions for them they explained about the sniffer dog and what to do not making the kids scared as I have been before. I’d love for HMP Lincoln to be recognised for all the adjustments they made and they listened to my fears and concerns.

The family support team are now looking into more about social stories for children and adults with additional needs to print something to prepare for a visit to know what to expect, I said it would be good if they see types of uniforms so they know who’s who, about the doors how they open and close shut behind you, the dog because I've sensory seekers I was worried they touch the dog it was really good being able to talk it through with them and facts it went so smoothly.

I couldn’t of asked anything more and I feel that with an award it brings more awareness to them as not only that the majority of prisoners have mental health issues and additional needs more so with ADHD, it could help them understand more for the prisoners the families and friends.

Nominee Name - Melissa Ashley
Nominee Service - Support

Nomination Details
I know she is my sister but for me she deserves recognition for all her support and help.
Despite being miles away she is always there for our family.
Especially my youngest who has Autism and development issues.

She provides amazing support for him and has gone above and beyond helping both us as a family and our son.
We get regular video calls which he loves and she provides me that sisterly support to hang on in there when I am perhaps at a low ebb, providing me personally with emotional support plus advice and words of wisdom.

At times when she sees that things are frantic she will even take my son and provide me a couple of days respite to focus on my other children who also have their own SEND issues.

She is a sister but she is a star in my life

Nominee Name - Carole Murray
Nominee Service - KIDS

Nomination Details
She’s the #2 (pun intended!) the team around my son,is amazing but no one can step into my shoes if something happened, like Carole.

She’s been there for my son and I for nearly 9 years now, through my daughter and dad dying, our most difficult trials as a family, the boys leaving to live at the mums and then my sons dad dying in 2018. Since then it’s been just us :) and I know that if I wasn’t able to care for my son, she could fill my shoes until I was well again.

She’s literally one in a million, all our carers are though.

You’ll never find another Carole Murray
Nominated Date - 19-01-2023
Nominee Name - Karen Richardson
Nominee Service - Early Years

Nomination Details
I'm really impressed with the service from Early Years, I called through at 5:30pm on a Friday night when I was (what felt like) the end of the road and I had a case worker assigned to me by Tuesday morning - Karen Richardson.

My son is 8 and diagnosed with Autism. He was in such a heightened state every day, everything ended in a meltdown, sometimes lasting up to 12 hours. His meltdowns involve a lot of aggressive behaviour.

In addition my daughter, 11, with no special needs also needed help to understand her brothers diagnosis and what this meant for her and how to manage the impact it has on her life.

Karen came to see me within a week of the initial phone call and I am forever grateful. Karen is attentive, meticulous, thoughtful and she listens to me! Her support and advise have made significant change in our family.

Karen has worked mainly with my daughter, signing her up to young carers first, she arranged a meeting at my house to set this up and talk about the advantages of the group and we met with Andrea for Young Carers.

Karen has been to my daughters school weekly and worked with her to help her understand autism and given her strategies around what to do when my son has a meltdown. My daughter always asks me "when is Karen coming to see me next" She really gets a lot from these visits.

Karen has also followed up with young carers, when I have raised an issue, Karen has provided support and worked with young carers to work on the same issue.

Karen has also helped facilitate school meetings where there normally wouldn't be one, with both my sons and daughters school, she doesn't let anything slip by and ensures there is a resolution, actions are followed up and that everyone is happy at the end.

Karen has helped build bridges for my children going between 2 parental homes as this has been challenging. Karen has gone above and beyond by purchasing equipment to help manage my sons day.

I've met a lot of professionals but Karen stands outs to me as I never have to chase her for anything, she never misses an appointment, always brings enough resources and will happily go the extra mile. Karen is not one to signpost you and leave to your own devices, she will stand by your side to see that you have what you need, no matter what.

Nominee Name - Sharon Marshall
Nominee Service - Swinderby Preschool

Nomination Details
Sharon (or Ra Ra as she is known) has been beyond amazing with supporting our 3 year old daughter. J is non verbal and potentially Autistic.

We were worried about how she would be accepted at a preschool setting due to how she is. Ra Ra has been amazing from day one. She has done a referral to Community Paediatrics (that was a long form!) and also for an EHC for J.

Not only has Ra Ra done these things, but she is always giving information on local support groups or information on what can help J with her being "potentially" autistic.

Ra Ra has been there when I've needed a shoulder to cry on, and always calmly explains what the next steps are in any of the referrals. It is thanks to her that I have been given the information for Lincs PCF, Portage and PAACT.

If she finds any extra info that could help J, she'll print it off for me to collect at either drop off or pick up. She is always so lovely about J, even when dealing with some of the more challenging behaviour like headbutting. Ra Ra always keeps us updated on progress and different things that have been tried/trying to do to help J.

She really is truly amazing and deserves so much recognition and thanks for all the hard work she has done as the SENCO at a very small preschool.

Hall of Fame Award Nominations for Jul-Dec

Winner
Icon Podium PositionNominated Date - 21-07-2023
Nominee Name - Karl Kinsella ( Mr. K)
Nominee Service - Cranwell Primary School

Nomination Details
Karl is a caretaker at Cranwell primary school.
My little boy has really struggled to be in school throughout the last 2 years and Karl he has gone above and beyond to support him. Whilst he has never had a reason to have to help, my son quickly made a connection to him and Karl took this on board without even considering what was to happen over the following 2 years. My sons anxiety about being in school became quite sever and I found myself having to be in school with him daily.

Karl quickly realised that my son needed someone to help him whether that being someone to talk to, kick the football with him in the playground or give him a little job to do and this in turn allowed me to be able to have that little respite knowing my son was with someone he felt comfortable enough with to trust.

He would often pop in to the classroom throughout the day just to check in and make him aware that he was always available if he started to feel unsure about being in school. He has enabled my son to access his learning when we did not feel we would be able to even get him through the school gates.

There has been many occasions where his anxiety got the better of him and he would go into fight or flight mode, not once did Karl ever walk away from him and always made sure he felt his opinions mattered and were valued.

I can honestly say I do not know how we would have got through the last few years without him. As a caretaker not many people see the work he does within the school but for us as a family he is way more than just a caretaker, he has been a mentor and true role model for my son and for that I do not think we could ever thank him enough. He truly deserves to be recognised for his dedication to helping without even having to be asked.

Nominee Name - Kirsty Sweeney
Nominee Service - Four Winds Accessible Riding

Nomination Details
Kirsty and the team at Fourwinds accessible riding, East Pinchbeck are wonderful.

My son attends on a Friday instead of school. They follow the national curriculum and teach him everything he could possibly need in terms of education but they also learn all about horses.

The level of pastoral care is unbelievable - my son has developed emotionally and mentally since starting with Kirsty over a year ago. He has developed a bond with one of his favourite horses and Domino has become a confidant of his. Without this emotional support, he would struggle even more than he already does.

My son finds emotion and regulation incredibly difficult and Fourwinds give him the support and space to not only be himself but to release all that emotion and process everyday life.

Alongside that, Kirsty has been so supportive to us as a family and to me personally. My son is one of four children and our eldest son, also has additional needs. Life is tough some days and I can’t remember how many times I have had an emotional meltdown/tears with Kirsty or one of the team.

There is no judgement, she just supports listens and offers guidance and advice that is worth so much more because you know that she genuinely cares.

I couldn’t speak more highly of anyone. She has made a very tough year, a lot easier to bear and I couldn’t thank her more. She has become a wonderful friend to my son and our family. We couldn’t get through the tough days without her.

She supports a lot of families and other children/young adults that are part of the wonderful programme she runs.

Nominee Name - Justine Want
Nominee Service - Private Counselling/don't Lose Hope

Nomination Details
Justine started working with my son at Dont Lose Hope after he tried to self harm due to bullying at school. When he was ready to wean himself off, we went privately with her to taper her support off rather than it stop suddenly, he doesn't deal well with change. She saw him at DLH weekly for a number of years and was instrumental in helping build his self esteem and our confidence back up as a family.

She held a very safe space for him to let it all out. He has since been diagnosed with ASD and she helped him to come to terms with what that meant for him and how he uses that knowledge to navigate life. She used putty to keep his hands busy, she let him share while he stared at hands and struggled with the words.

She is the most kind and patient person, often offering support and guidance to me as she let me out the building while he had his sessions. Our family will be eternally grateful for her calm and wonderful support which has turned our family around, we now have the tools to face what we must, and the confidence to do it as a family without further support.

I have had a lot of counsellors myself over the years, none have had the very serene and warm approach that Justine offers. She is an absolute star.
Nominated Date - 02-12-2023
Nominee Name - Jane Rose
Nominee Service - Portage - Grantham

Nomination Details
Jane Rose is both my daughter's Portage co-ordinator.
From the very first moment Jane stepped into our home, she felt 'normal', wasn't judging me or my parenting methods, or being negative about my daughters behaviours and who they are.

Jane celebrated everything about them and their little quirks. Jane has been nothing but a ray of sunshine in all of our lives.

Thanks to Jane, my daughter received after mediation her EHCP, through Family Fund which Jane recommended to me, we have outdoor play equipment funded to us. Thanks to Jane, I have cue cards, books, information and evidence for my younger daughters EHCP process and both their DLA applications were evidenced by Jane.

I cannot tell you how much help Jane has given to me.
Not just this, Jane is a pleasure to be around, permanently has a smile on her face and just makes me laugh until tears roll down my face.
She thoroughly deserves recognition but there isn't enough Janes in the SEN world.
We love you Jane! Xx

Nominee Name - Mrs W Taylor
Nominee Service - Priory Ruskin Academy, Grantham, Ng31 8ed

Nomination Details
My Daughter receives above and beyond support from Mrs Taylor at Priory Ruskin . She always has time for her, an open door and helps her talk through any bothers, big or small.

Mrs Taylor has helped my daughter through panic attacks, feelings of overwhelm, keeps her updated of any changes and challenges and can always talk her down or motivate her, depending on her current need. She has supported her through friendship struggles, helped support teachers to understand her needs, built her confidence and encouraged her to succeed.

My daughter started her school journey with many challenges, self esteem struggles, anxiety, friendship difficulties all leading to meltdowns and unhealthy coping strategies. She changed primary schools to an excellent nurturing, supportive school but I worried about her secondary experience. Mrs Taylor quickly built a positive, trusting relationship with her.

She is now in year 11, a performing arts and house prefect and Mrs Taylor already has a plan how to support her through her GCSEs and anxieties around this time. I know she wouldn't have had the same journey through secondary without Mrs Taylor.

My daughter isn't planning on staying on to sixth form after year 11 but I know the advice and support that she has received will stay with her.

Nominated Date - 07-07-2023
Nominee Name - Mrs K Singleton
Nominee Service - Teacher

Nomination Details
I would like to nominate Mrs Singleton for this award because she goes above and beyond for every pupil and in particular has been an amazing support to my son. Not only has she been fantastic with him but she has supported myself through some particularly tricky times.
She is a fantastic teacher that goes without saying but to go that extra mile for every pupil and family is why she deserves this award. When my son started school it was an extremely difficult time and on occasion it was hard for all but she never gave up, she saw potential and kept me involved with all decisions and explained his EHCP in detail to me. He has flourished and in all honesty has exceeded all expectations and that is down to her and the staff at Rauceby. For example he would not read a book, he struggled to concentrate and take on the information and now he is above the expected stage for reception children!

With the patience he has been shown he has learnt how to express his emotions and feelings in a healthy way, he is able to say he wants to be alone or that he needs some quiet time. His confidence has grown so much and he looks forward to going to school. He understands boundaries a lot more also. I cannnot quite believe the transformation in him and to see him join in at sports day was such a proud moment for me.

I no longer have fears and worries about him being left behind because I see he is just as capable as any other child, the staff are all phenomenal. I am so grateful Mrs Singleton, you probably does not realise how much you have done for us as a family by just being you. Thank you for putting so much effort into my boy and making school a positive experience for him, I know its hard at times but you really are amazing. You have paved the way for a bright academic future for my son. Thank you.

Having struggled with her mental health to the point of multiple suicide attempts in her previous setting, we believe that the staff here quite literally saved her!

It’s a fantastic provision and we’re eternally grateful that our daughter was lucky enough to go there.

Molly was my daughters key person throughout her time in the toddler room and preschool. She devoted a huge amount of time to getting to know my daughter, as at the time she was entirely non verbal and found life very difficult.

As well as being an amazing member of staff and carer for my daughter whilst at Bramble Hall Molly has also always been on hand to help with issues at home.

She has stayed past her finish time on days when I couldn’t persuade my daughter into the car. She has put together additional materials to help my my daughter with any struggles she has at home.

Now that my daughter has started school Molly continues to be a really important part of her life as she takes my daughter to school as part of breakfast club. The transition to school life has been really difficult for her and Molly is still always at the end of the phone to help.

I honestly don’t know what we would do without her
